Breaking the vicious cycle of poverty and environmental degradation in Africa

Membership

Membership of Conserve Africa creates a regional network with a clear focus to achieve greater influence of the environmental non-government community in Africa. Clearly a strong membership allows our collective voices to be heard. Members can learn from each other, in a variety of different ways such as training, funding, network meetings, etc. Conserve Africa represents a broad cross-section of organisations, who are involved in all aspects of the environment and sustainable development in Africa. Members are local NGOs, community-based groups or associations which are independent, not profit seeking for its members, has a constitution and a voluntary governing body, management committee or board, and whose activity is aimed at the wider community. We aim to strengthen the voice of the African environmental NGOs to be able to better represent NGO collective interests.

Members of Conserve Africa work together to:

  1. Become more organised and active in addressing sustainable development issues by facilitating and encouraging collective voice and action, networking, information exchange, research and development initiatives;
  2. Promote dissemination and sharing of information, experiences, views and ideas on current development challenges in Africa;
  3. Contribute to the analysis, campaign and discussion on issues of current relevance to socio-economic development of Africa and on international policies that may affect the African ordinary people adversely;
  4. Share information about successful NGO experiences in Africa and highlight key priority issues for action;
  5. Increase the visibility of the contributions made by NGOs to socio-economic and sustainable development of the African continent;
  6. Promote the capacity of Africa-based NGOs trough information provision about opportunities available to them such as: training, conferences, workshops, new publications/reports/abstracts, web sites, international courses, fundraising opportunities, etc;
  7. Strengthen the capacity of civil society organisations to effectively advocate for and implement environmental protection and awareness programmes;
  8. To liaise with similar organisations elsewhere as appropriate, to source and share ideas for environmental projects and issues;
  9. Bring African environmental organisations and community-based groups together involved in environment and sustainable development to improve collective campaigning and advocacy work;
  10. Encourage and promoting communication between members and cross-fertilisation of information, ideas, and products and working practices;
